Decoy suggested it would be nice to have a way to send "blind carbon copy" messages.
To me, that could mean a command like:
/bcc garance,scatter,decoy,coke: A message to four people
And people receiving the message would see:
>> (20:25) Private message from System Manager, to you and three others:
- A message to four people
If any discussions were included in the sendlist, then (IMO) they would be
included in the header. I guess we should do similar reformatting for the
header which shows up as a public message in a discussion.
The idea is to send one message to many people, without annoying people
with a super-long header. Or load up the server with 50 sends (one to each
person) instead of a single send to everyone. This might be useful for
bots, among other things.
This wouldn't be hard to do for plain-text clients, but we'd have to think
some more about the right way to do this for SLCP clients. Maybe a client
should register that it will support BCC events, and if it does not then
that user sees a standard /send.
Strider notes that it might be important to give a receiving user some way
to find out the actual names of everyone in the bcc list.
I'm not sure how much I like the idea, but it seemed interesting enough to
write it up.
